Escenic Days 2016
Oslo 2016 – “CMS is the playground in which we unfold our journalism.” Mattias Grøndal, Jyllands-Posten. From 1st -2nd of June we were attending the Escenic Days in Oslo and had intense days of sharing knowledge. What´s new?
The two-day event provided insights into the latest developments of Escenic and was focused on the product strategy in the coming months. The lectures of Escenic customers entered a holistic insight into the benefits of this CMS.
Mark van de Kamp, CEO of Escenic, opened the first day with the Roadmap and the strategic development. This was especially about Escenic 6.0 with the highlight CUE to the end of summer. The CUE Webinterface is completely browser-based and is usable for all devices, also a real advantage for editors.
A very successful product was presented by Ben Curtis, Deputy Online Sports Editor vom mirror.co.uk. in a very interesting lecture on “The success of live coverage”. Live blogging is a tool of the Escenic Live Centers. As an Escenic plug-in, Live Center is a fully-integrated component of the Escenic content management system. Live-Blogs are completely in control of the publisher and no more embedded islands from a third-party software vendor’s site. With no additional work all access rights and controls that apply to ordinary news content also apply to blog content. The benefits mentioned above apply already in this case and ease workflows. Of course, the usual benefits such as image and text editing in Escenic style remain. New decisive improvements:
- – 25% of total traffic goes to/comes from live coverage
- – Live users become regular users
- – 3x increase in traffic

Further talks on the technical information on the architecture and infrastructure by and about Escenic were held until the late afternoon. On the Shedule as well were the Cruise on the Oslo Fjord with the schooner “Vollan”. Time to think about the day, discuss and especially maintain contacts. “It is not possible to run away.” Alexander Schlett, eThinking GmbH and thus confirming the great exchange among Escenic users.
After an inspiring evening on the water, the second day started a little later and with a lot of coffee. On that day the whys and wherefores of channels were discussed. Different Escenic customers presented their experiences and opinions. Julia Wegeler, Head of Digital Products of n-tv informed about BMW and Ford connected cars in the afternoon. n-tv Content are transmitted to the console of the car, naturally using Escenic. The presentation showed very detailed how comprehensive the options are. Being mentioned as a succesful partner made us very happy.
On the Escenic Days 2016 three continents were represented by the participants. We are looking forward to the next event in Norway.
